Ski Gap Zermatt Autumn Course – Meet the Team

Ski Gap Zermatt – Autumn Course

Our 2017 ski gap Zermatt started on the 1st of October, with a small core team of trainees that are currently living in our team chalet in the middle of Zermatt. A few more names will join the course in its later part, but here are our full time team members!

Kieran

Hi, my name is Kieran Whelan, I’m from Watford in London and before I came out to Zermatt I was a personal trainer for David Lloyd.
What made you choose this course?
I guess the reason I’m here is because I’ve always dreamt of being a ski instructor since I started skiing at 3 years old! My qualifications are generally sports coaching based therefore ski instructing fits my resume perfectly.

Ellie

Hey, i am Ellie, i’m 24, come from London where i worked as personal trainer.
What made you choose this course?
I decided to come and do the ski instructor course with Subzero Coaching because firstly I have always wanted to do a ski season. After considering being a chalet girl in my gap year i didn’t end up going through with It.  I felt like my job as a personal trainer wasn’t challenging me any more; i felt like I needed a new challenge and a way I could progress my career further. Can’t see myself working in an office any time soon! (Or ever).

Charlie

Hi my name is Charlie from Sevenoaks in Kent and I’m 18. I have been skiing since I was 4 and have done around 25 weeks skiing.
What made you choose this course?
I am currently taking a gap year before I go to study geography for my degree. I chose to do this course as one of my passions is to ski and getting a ski instructor qualification gives you many good life skills such as group management, assessing different teaching scenarios and first aid.

News from the fieldski gap zermatt

With just a small core training team each participant was able to get plenty of attention.
Our coaches,  worked together during the first few weeks. From the slopes on the glacier to the fitness sessions in the beautiful forest around Zermatt, the ski instructor trainees have gone through a sizable schedule!
The first two weeks on snow were spent training both personal technical performance and teaching methodology. Key part of these weeks was the: Core Skier Development framework. Developped in IASI to guide ski instructors teaching their clients from complete beginner to parallel skier.
The third week will be exam time. The Level 1 Assessment is here! Good luck everyone!
Beside the training part of life, the group had the chance to meet some of the professionals that work in town, from Lee, bootfitter in Julen Sport, to Rowena, director of Matterhorn Diamonds Ski School, as well as Jamie, Head of Education in IASI. On top of that, Kieran and Ellie had the chance to go for a phenomenal experience: paragliding flight around the Matterhorn!
