Name: Rowena Phillips

Practice isn’t the thing you do once you’re good. It’s the thing you do that makes you good – Malcolm Gladwell
Languages: English, German, French
BASI Language Examiner for French and German

Rowena started skiing at the age of three on the slopes of Lech, Austria, and continued skiing through university, racing both for the team and individually at a National Level in Slalom, Giant Slalom and Moguls.
She started working in Zermatt as a ski instructor 11 years ago, and as a ski school director 4 years ago. She is fully dual qualified in the British and Swiss systems; one of the only British females to do so, and most recently has been training instructors to achieve their goals in skiing within the BASI system. She has also written a paper comparing the Swiss and British Ski Instruction systems, which has been published.
Rowena has been on the Ski Test team for the Ski Club of Great Britain for the last 7 years: The ski test details over 800 skis for the following season and the test is published every autumn; you can read more here: Ski Club – Testers and watch the taster video for this year’s Test here: 2016 Ski Test Taster
During the summer she regularly bikes and runs in and around the Zermatt mountains and has completed numerous triathlons. She is also a keen (although by her own admission, pretty poor) windsurfer!
She says: “I am very much looking forward to training the ISIA team alongside Federico this winter, it’s a great resort for training due to the altitude and the variation of slopes available. Bring on the winter!”
